Education in emergencies and peacebuilding

In East Asia and Pacific, despite unprecedented advances in development in recent years, the benefits of rapid economic growth have not been shared equally, nor equitably. Many countries are facing significant problems of poverty, high unemployment, social exclusion and marginalization, which have led to violence and social unrest, with substantial impacts on children. After Africa, the region has the second largest number of fragile and conflict stricken states and regions. And often times, education has even become the target of attack in several countries. This resource provides a snapshot of the work UNICEF is doing to protect and promote education and peacebuilding in emergencies across the East Asia and Pacific region.
