Background paper prepared for the 2019 Global education monitoring report: Migration, displacement and education: building bridges, not walls

This background paper reviews the global data system surrounding forcibly displaced people and their access to education. Throughan in-depth examination of sixcountrycase studies, the paper assessescritical data gaps and methodological issues underpinning current data schema. It then establishes a rough global estimatefor the proportionof school-age children who are forcibly displaced—as well as the percentageof those children who are likely out-of-school.It includespolicyrecommendations targeted at national and international organisations forimproving data systems and reporting on education for forcibly displaced people.
